We’re delighted to announce that Save-a-Space, developed in partnership with Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), has been nominated for the “Changing Behaviour through Technology” Award at the ITS UK 2025 Awards — a national recognition celebrating innovation and impact across the UK’s transport technology sector.
Transforming the Commuter Experience
Save-a-Space is a digital parking reservation system that allows drivers to pre-book spaces at train and tram Park & Ride car parks across the West Midlands.
By providing commuters with certainty and control over their journey, the service helps reduce parking stress and encourages greater use of public transport.
Developed with TfWM to improve the daily experience for Park & Ride users, Save-a-Space has now facilitated over 20,000 successful reservations, including nearly 10,000 paid bookings since its launch.
This strong uptake and repeat use show a clear behavioural shift — from last-minute parking searches to proactive, planned travel that integrates seamlessly with the region’s public transport network.

Save-a-Space simplifies the parking experience through real-time availability, intuitive booking flows, secure in-app payments, and automated reminders.
Behind the scenes, the system integrates with TfWM’s enforcement and access control mechanisms to ensure that reserved spaces are reliably available for those who book.
Its data-driven backend supports smarter transport management by giving TfWM detailed insights into usage patterns, peak demand, and capacity planning.
This combination of behavioural design, digital integration, and operational intelligence demonstrates how simple, user-centred technology can positively reshape commuter habits.

Originally funded through EU and Innovate UK innovation programmes, Save-a-Space continues to evolve with TfWM’s support — including extensions such as EV charger reservations, which enable smarter, more sustainable travel options.
